I just love using the calculator, one can learn such senseless and unusable trivia.
Today, at work during a break, the calculator showed that Americans are burning up 231 barrels of oil every second.
And, we only use 1/4 of the world's 80 million barrels consumed daily.
We here on Planet Earth burn 29.2 Billion barrels yearly, which is almost 3 times the estimated reserves in Alaska's Anwar.
So you can see that even if we drill in Alaska, and it were available tomorrow, that is only about 2 years of driving even IF we could cheaply get all of it out from underground.
Pie in the sky sugarplum visions of hundreds of years of oil is just not real. Nor is blaming the 'environmentalists' for our energy woes.
Like a little group of folks holding handmade signs have kept the powerful oil companies from drilling... or building new refineries? In fact, the Congressional Record shows that the oil companies have conspired to not build new refineries. The suggestion is that it will not allow them enough control over their product.
No no no, boys and girls, we're not going to be able to drill our way out of this one. The simple truth is that the major oil fields have already been found, and we are left with the harder-to-get stuff. The expensive stuff.
This is what's called Peak Oil, and we're pretty close to it if not even there already.

Now we can either sit on our thumbs and let market forces fix everything, or we can work on this problem ourselves. This website is full of ideas and suggestions. Take some time and read it. These MAY be practical possibilities, and may even help us all conserve.
So, sit on your thumb (ouch) or get involved:
1. Make sure you are registered to vote and vote this year.
2. Vote absentee ballot-contact your county registrar of voters.
3. Vote for new people in Congress, and oust ALL the ineffective incumbents.
4. Vote for those with the smallest campaign warchest (that's me...)
5. If you like my ideas and style, help with this Green Party campaign- spread the word about this website. Send a link to friends.

7. Spread the word that 2 Green candidates are running for Congress from Nevada this year. Nevada is a mighty independent and powerfully unpredictable state, and YOU have the opportunity to help elect the first Greens EVER to Federal office. Imagine what a feather in the cap that will be.
8. Send in your conservation tips so that they may be included into this site.
9. Pray for Divine Intervention.
